First, an announcement: yesterday was Draw a Bird Day! I missed it, but it got me talking with a fellow WordPress blogger who goes by createarteveryday, and we got really excited about this challenge idea, which she proposes on her fantabulous artsy blog: http://createarteveryday.com/2015/04/08/draw-a-bird-every-month/
Basically, both of us are going to draw a bird on the 8th of every month! You all should join in on the fun too! Additionally, I decided that I want to do bird-related art for the next seven days, since I missed Draw a Bird Day. Also because birds, why not? Tweet tweet.
Today’s drawing is a quetzal:
Quetzals are beautiful, colorful birds native to the tropics in southern Mexico, Central America, and South America. There are several species. (I drew a male member of the resplendent species.) Oh, and they feature in Mesoamerican mythologies. Ever heard of the god Quetzalcoatl, also known as the Feathered Serpent?
What a beautiful bird you chose! WOOT! Let’s start us an arty revoluuuuution, peeps! No pun intended lol! I’m looking forward to your week of birds! 😀
